The Personalausweis is the German national identity card with a built-in electronic ID (eID). At NextSign it is used to sign documents digitally: the signer confirms their identity by scanning their ID card with a smartphone or card reader via the official AusweisApp, and the document is then signed with the same legal validity as a physical signature. The solution meets the highest eIDAS assurance level ('high').
